EO’s Regional Workforce and Child Development Hub Celebrates Grand Opening
October 23, 2024
Abingdon, VA (October 23, 2024) – EO held a Ribbon Cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand opening of the Regional Workforce and Child Development Hub. The First Lady of Virginia Suzanne Youngkin, and Virginia’s Secretary of Education Aimee Guidera were in attendance, as were prominent business and community leaders from across the region.
“The Regional Workforce and Child Development Hub is possible because private, public, and philanthropic partners have come together in a world-class model of collaboration,” explained Heather Nicholson, EO Board Chairwoman. “Today, we not only celebrate a new beginning but also the commitment and dedication of everyone who has been a part of our journey.”
The 87,000-square-foot facility, formerly a Kmart, is now home to numerous programs and organizations, including:
-
Ballad Center for Early Learning, providing care and education for close to 300 children
-
EO’s Career Commons, a workforce and career simulation center that will serve 30,000 students annually
-
GO TEC stem training labs
-
EO’s Shared Service Alliance, which provides business coaching and back-office support for childcare operators across the region
“The impact of this project is much bigger than the 87,000 square feet of revitalized space we celebrated today,” shared Travis Staton, President & CEO of EO. “This project will increase the quality of life and wellbeing in our region for generations.”
In addition to today’s Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, EO is also hosting a community Block Party on Saturday, November 2, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The event will include food trucks, facility tours, games, and a touch-truck fair.
