United Way of Southwest Virginia Now Offering Ready4k Text Messaging Service
July 14, 2021
Abingdon, VA (July 28, 2021) – United Way of Southwest Virginia is now offering Ready4K text messages to boost a child’s learning experience. Ready4K is a research-based text messaging program for families with kids ages 0 to 9. Each week, parents will receive texts with fun facts and tips on ways to help their child learn and grow.
“We are thrilled to bring Ready4K to families in our region! As a parent, you often wonder if there is something you can do to help your child, and this app will offer some ideas and resources to do just that. It’s just one more thing we can do to support children and prepare them to be ready for school and ready for life,” said Dr. Susan Patrick, Director of Childhood Success, United Way of Southwest Virginia.
The goals of Ready4K align with the goals of Campaign for Grade-Level Reading (CGLR). Both of these programs focus on improving the educational development of young students. “By having these educational tools at our disposal, we can promote quality teaching for every child in every setting, from the classroom to at-home learning, and beyond,” said Patrick.
Ready4K text tips help build on positive daily routines such as preparing a meal, brushing teeth, getting dressed, and bedtime. The tips parents will receive are always relevant and tailored to their child’s specific age. There is absolutely no cost to enroll in the Ready4K program, and parents can opt-out any time they wish to stop receiving text messages.
