EO's Childcare/career center on schedule for August opening

April 15, 2024

Author: David McGee, Bristol Herald Courier

Construction is progressing on schedule for a late summer opening of the regional workforce training/childcare hub labeled as a model for the rest of Virginia.

On Tuesday BurWil Construction workers and subcontractors busily worked in every corner of the former Kmart building near I-81’s Exit 17 to bring the $25 million multi-use facility to life.

Last October, after touring the then-vacant former retail space, Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin hailed the regional center as a model to be replicated across the state for its inventive mix of offering childcare, an array of workforce and teacher training opportunities impacting thousands of Southwest Virginia school children.
